Finance and treasury
CFOs, treasurers and controllers who can carry a board through a change in the numbers and the story behind them.
Executive search and advisory
A new owner, a listing, a turnaround, a shift on the balance sheet: each one needs people who have done it before. We find them, on retainer, for the boards and investors who ask us to. Candidates apply through Careers.
The firm
MJS Strategy is an independent retained search firm. A partner runs your search from the first call to the signed offer; there is no handoff to a team you never met. We keep the practice deliberately small so that stays true.
Most searches that run long were underspecified at the start, so we spend the first week writing the brief with you. What you get back is a short slate, each name argued in writing against that brief, and an offer that is a document rather than a number said in a corridor.
Practice
CFOs, treasurers and controllers who can carry a board through a change in the numbers and the story behind them.
Equity and credit people who know how an issuance actually gets done and what it costs the people who already own the stock.
Spokespeople who can hold a line under questioning and put the same answer in front of a fund and a retail holder.
Principal engineers and platform leads for the reporting and settlement systems a finance team has to trust.
Securities counsel and quantitative risk leaders who keep an ambitious plan inside the rules.
Chief executives and independent directors for companies stepping into a market they have not operated in before.
Insights
Search · 7 min read
By the time a retained search is going badly, the problem is usually months old and sits in the specification everyone signed and nobody believed.
Method · 5 min read
A long shortlist looks like diligence. Usually it is the opposite.
Compensation · 5 min read
Keeping the compensation range back until the final round does not protect anyone. It just wastes the first two weeks.
Work with us
Tell us what the board actually decided and which seat is missing. A partner reads it and replies within two business days with a straight view on the search, the market for that role, and what a retainer would look like.
